WW1 Thread
Good morning and merry christmas Amsterdam.
The month is December and the year is 1918. The snow slowly falls out today, yet all is quiet on the war front. Do you remember 4 years ago when rumors and telegrams from France and Germany have suggested an impromptu truce had been formed last night. This has caused outrage from command staff from both sides of this hideous conflict. Yet, can we blame the soldier? Afterall, many of whom were promised that the war would end by December. December is almost finished yet the war seems to be a long way from so. However, shall we take our time to recount the moments that changed history forever? It wasn't too long ago that the shot that rang around the world was shot. The assasination of the archduke by the Black Hand was truley something unexpected. Then came the declaration of wars, then the mobilzations. We all feared that such a was would come, but nothing of this scale. We hear of machine guns rampaging men like sliced butter. Such a scary beast. Anyway, the Russian Civil War between Red and White forces continues to rage on. If you had forgotten, the unpopular Tsar was overthrown by Democratic forces, but it itself has collapsed into anarchy. Socialist armies led by Lenin wage battle against Russian seperatists and White Armies loyal to either Kerensky or the Tsar. In another part of the world, the abdication of the German Kaiser is expected, after he sought refuge in our home, the Netherlands. The United States, an Entente power who joined in 1918, formed the League of Nations, maybe now we can have world peace! In the Orientals, north of the East Indies, come the Chinese Civil War. We might've assumed that the country would collapse, but not this bloody! Hopefully the Japanese can be a neutral arbiter of peace in the Far-East.
Anyway that wraps it all, thank you for tuning into Amsterdam Radio.
